Valentine’s Day is looming closer, and although 39% of voters said Valentine’s Day wasn’t for them, the other 61% said they adored Valentine’s Day! Although it’s nice to do something nice for your partner, we don’t believe it should all be about the money. Here’s 12 budget-friendly ideas for Valentine’s Day for you and your loved one to enjoy.
- A home-cooked meal and a hand-made card. Your meal can be whatever you want. It can be fresh or frozen, it can be gourmet or fast-food. Whatever you cook, you can enjoy it together, and if you still want to hand something over at the dinner table you could always make a card by hand. It’s something to cherish forever! Put on your favourite tunes and turn them low, get chatting over the table and laugh together! Once you’ve finished your meal you could snuggle up and watch a movie, or play video games together!
- Visit where you first met. Walking around the park holding hands and stargazing is just so romantic – and the best part is, is it’s free! Flowers and chocolates are optional. Why not just grab some sweets or even fish and chips to go and share them!
- Dress warm! If you’re in University, it can be hard to find time to be alone. A money-friendly and cute way to enjoy each other’s company is to leave a note in your partner’s dorm, telling them when you’ll pick them up. Take a trip somewhere private and simply enjoy each other’s company with a small picnic. You can do this in the day or the night, with whatever sandwiches and snacks you choose – just dress weather-appropriate!
- Rose petals, rose petals, rose petals. Invite your partner over to your place under a guise. Tell them you need help with your work, or spring cleaning. When they arrive, have them see a note letting them straight inside. Wait for them with their favourite song, maybe some candles or snacks. Pillows and blankets are always welcome!
- Get the blood pumping! Go on a hike together, through the woods, up a hill or a mountain or whatever. Take some photos, drink some hot tea, coffee or hot chocolate and enjoy the journey.
- Sweets only. Go to a favourite restaurant and order only sweets. Grab tea for two, or tea and cake, a cocktail and a chocolate sundae – the combinations are endless. It’s easier on the wallet and you don’t have to save the best ’till last. If you really don’t have a sweet tooth, you can do the same but get only starters!
- Spa night at home. You don’t need to spend a fortune on relaxation. You can get face masks for less than £1 or even make your own from ingredients you have at home. Sugar is a natural exfoliant and honey and lemon makes a great facial cleanser. You can grab some massage oils or light a few candles and really relax! If you’re lucky enough to have a bath to fit two people, get those bubbles flowing!
- Game night. Whether you go out or stay at home, gaming is a great way to work together (or against each other) and have a laugh whilst being competitive. You can take your date to a retro games arcade and just take a little bit of money – or head over to an arcade club that has a door entry and free-play inside! If it’s cold or you don’t fancy leaving the house, you could play games at home. Why not try ditching the PS4 or Xbox One for something a little more nostalgic? If you used to play the N64 or Sega MegaDrive when you first met, get it back out and relive the glory days!
- Netflix and Chill. Another great stay-in date idea is to binge a mini-series in an evening, and order some take away. Burgers, kebabs, dessert, milkshake. Who cares about the calories – you both have plenty of time to burn it off later in the day, if you get what we mean.
- Boardgames and Chill. If you’re not much of a gamer you can enjoy playing an old school classic like Monopoly or Chess. Why not sweeten the deal by adding in a free massage, or whoever loses has to give the most bomb oral they’ve ever given.
- Visit a museum or take a spooky tour! If you both enjoy creepy stuff, or like your history, why not visit somewhere like museum, or take a local ghost tour. They don’t cost much (if anything) but you might just learn something! If you’re a bit more artistic, why not visit an art gallery? Just remember that if your visit was free, why not leave a little donation when you leave? They need support to stay open!
- DIY together! It doesn’t have to be something as daunting as painting a fence or decorating your room, you can grab some cheap art supplies from a local store and paint for each other. Simply place the canvases back-to-back and paint something together. They’ll either make a great gift for each other, or at the very least – something to laugh about in the future!
